Spherical Chromium Nitride (CrN) powder

Purity:99.5%

CAS No:24094-93-7

ENINEC No.:246-016-3

Application:

Spherical Chromium Nitride powder (CrN) is used in the fields of metallurgy, agriculture, electrical, chemical, environmental protection and aerospace. Chromium Nitride is often used as film coating. With high hardness and good wear resistance, it is a very important wear-resistant coating.

Chromium nitride is a chemical compound of chromium and nitrogen with the formula CrN. Its melting point is nearly 1770℃ and has a density of 5.9 g/cm3. It is very hard, and is extremely resistant to corrosion. Chromium nitride micron powders can be prepared by direct combination of chromium and nitrogen at 800 °C. Chromium Nitride (CrN) is gray black powder, stable to water, acid and alkali. Chromium Nitride is not only an excellent additive for steel-making alloy, but also has good physical and mechanical properties, which is better than titanium nitride in wear resistance. Mainly used for wear-resistant coating. It can be used for anti-corrosion metal coating materials and plastic molds, as well as multi-component coating materials.

Applications:

Chromium Nitride is often used as film coating. With high hardness and good wear resistance, it is a very important wear-resistant coating. The CrN film prepared by hollow cathode ion plating has two-phase structure of Cr + Cr2N, with grain size of 20-70 nm and hardness HV 22 GPa. After vacuum annealing, it can be increased to HV 35.4 GPa. Its wear resistance is better than that of CrC film. Cr + Cr2N or single-phase CrN can be obtained from CrN films by reactive sputtering. The hardness of CrN films is HV 20-25 GPa (the hardness of bulk CrN is HV 11 GPa).Chromium nitride is used as a coating to other metals due to its ability to resist corrosion. This compound is used industrially to coat metals and also for metal and plastic molding. Besides chromium nitride is also used in the medical industry whereby it is used to coat them to keep them from getting corroded.
